Joseph S. Daning Amphitheater
Opening in 2024:
Joseph S. Daning Amphitheater
“Meet me at the Daning” will soon become a familiar phrase for Goose Creek residents.
The City’s new Joseph S. Daning Amphitheater -- named after beloved public servant Rep. Joe Daning -- will be an incredible new addition for City of Goose Creek Recreation.
The amphitheater will be constructed on the Goose Creek Municipal Center Campus, near the existing Recreation Complex and the lake behind City Hall. The new facility will include an outside basketball court, a food truck area, restrooms and additional parking.
The structure will have a 1,000-seat capacity, and will host a wide range of musical, performance and community events. Groundbreaking on the amphitheater is set for the Spring of 2023. Construction is expected to take around 18 months, with a projected finish in the fall of 2024.
The total cost of the amphitheater is approximately $4 million. Rep. Daning played an instrumental role in securing $1.5 million in State funding for the project, the remainder of which is being paid for by ARPA funds.
Mayor Habib called the amphitheater a gamechanger for the City, and praised the man for whom it will be named.
“I’ve known Joe Daning for 40 years,” the Mayor said. “He is a true public servant who has spent his entire public life serving Goose Creek. I am proud that the amphitheater will forever bear his name.”
Rep. Daning has been a member of the S.C. House of Representatives since 2008, and is retiring from that body in January of 2023. He was a member of Goose Creek City Council from 1978 to 1986, and again from 1992 to 2008.
