Goose Creek City Council highlighted the importance of literacy at its Tuesday, Sept. 10 meeting.

As Council members looked on, Mayor Habib read a proclamation that honored International Literacy Day, which took place Sept. 8, as well as National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, which will take place Sept. 23-29. The Mayor also praised the Trident Literacy Association, and the work it does to turn around lives in the Lowcountry.

“There are wonderful people at the Trident Literacy Association doing wonderful things, really impacting lives,” the Mayor said. “I urge my fellow citizens to learn more about the importance of literacy, and to become involved.”

Trident Literacy Association Development Director Rachel Knight addressed City Council following the Mayor’s Proclamation.  “Thank you for this proclamation, and the opportunity to bring attention to the issue of adult literacy in Goose Creek,” she said.
