  • Candidate filing begins May 18 for City Council Special Election

A special election to fill the Goose Creek City Council seat vacated by Greg Habib's election as Mayor will be held on Tuesday, July 31. Candidate filing for the seat opens at 12 noon on Friday, May 18, and will close at 12 noon on Tuesday, May 29.

 

The Berkeley County Board of Elections and Voter Registration officially confirmed the election date earlier this week.

 

The election winner will serve the remainder of the seat’s four-year term, which expires in 2020.

The filing fee for candidates is $150. Candidates must file in person at the Berkeley County Board of Elections (6 Belt Drive, Moncks Corner).  For more information on filing to become a candidate, or to obtain other election information, contact the Berkeley County Voter Registration Office at (843) 719-4056, or visit the county Voter Registration and Elections department online

Goose Creek’s City Council elections are non-partisan. Winners are determined by an at-large, city-wide vote.  The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of that seat's council term, which continues until 2020. Voting on July 31 will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Goose Creek Municipal Court at the Municipal Center.
