General Information
The City of Goose Creek provides sanitation service to each residence once a week. It is our goal to provide you with the best possible sanitation service. We ask that you follow these guidelines to assist us in achieving that goal.
All refuse and debris must be:
- Properly containerized (No unauthorized containers will be emptied)
- Placed curbside for collection by 7 a.m. the day of collection (Trucks will not return for containers placed for pick-up late)
- Sorted by type (refer to sorting your trash)
The City provides one green roll-cart to each residence for household garbage. Residents are allowed to pay a one-time fee for one additional cart. The fee may be paid at City Hall. The serial number on the cart has been recorded and is assigned to a specific address. Please record your serial number on the front of this brochure to assist you in keeping up with your cart. Green roll carts remain the property of the City.
Brown roll-carts for yard debris disposal may be purchased at City Hall. Brown yard debris carts are the property of the resident.
Do Not overload the roll-cart – Whenever possible, break down boxes and crush plastic containers.
Sorting your trash
Regular household garbage:
Regular household garbage should be placed in your green roll-cart. This is the garbage generated from food preparation and other regular daily activities.
Small appliances such as toasters, microwave ovens, and television are collected with regular household garbage. Clothing and computers are also regular household garbage.
Cardboard boxes must be flattened and stacked beside your roll-cart. Please do not use boxes as trash receptacles.
Paints—see special instructions below.
Yard debris:
Small debris such as grass clippings, straw, leaves, etc. must be placed in paper yard waste bags or a brown City of Goose Creek debris roll-cart. See general information on how to obtain a brown roll-cart.
Large yard debris such as branches and limbs may be stacked curbside for pickup. Maximum dimensions for pick up are 4 ft long and 4 in in diameter; and no more than 50 lbs in weight. Dirt must be removed from roots.
Bulky Items:
All types of bulky items will be removed on your collection day. Separation of metal from non-metal items is crucial. Very large items such as storage sheds, garage doors or trailers should be dismantled into manageable pieces.
Contractors performing work at residential or commercial sites are responsible for removing litter or waste material by the end of each work week.
If you are unsure about the category of a bulky item, place it by itself or call for clarification.
Items NOT collected:
- Concrete/Asphalt Sidewalks, Driveways
- Ashes or Cinders (hot or cold)
- Dirt/Compost
- Bricks and/or Concrete Blocks or Similar Items
- Ceramic Tile
- Shingles
- Large Automobile Parts (Fenders, Doors, Hoods, Trucks, Lids, Bumpers, Etc.)
- Contractor Generated Building & Yard Debris
- Animal Feces
Do not place hot ashes, liquids of any kind such as cooking oil, motor oil, gasoline, etc., yard debris, construction debris, metal debris, dirt or rocks in the green roll-cart.
Disposal of Household Paints
Paint will be collected with regular household garbage. The paint must be completely hardened before the City can collect and dispose of it. Lids should be removed from empty paint cans to allow residue to dry. Leave the lid off for collection. Builders sand, kitty litter or wood chips should be added to left over paint in order that it will air-dry and harden. Leave the lid off for collection. LATEX PAINTS ONLY may be diluted and discharged to the sewer.
The City will NOT dispose of left over paints from contractors. Contractors should contact SCDHEC for proper disposal procedures.
Dead Animals will be collected upon request. This list does not contain all collected and uncollected items. You are encouraged to call the Department of Public Works at 824-2200 or 824-2300 with questions.
