Fire & Rescue  

Fire suppression services begin with training. Firefighters must begin with thirteen basic courses certified by the South Carolina Fire Academy. Additionally, Goose Creek City Fire Department requires Firefighters to obtain basic EMT certification through SC DHEC. The Department encourages volunteers to begin obtaining these classes as soon as they determine they are interested in the fire service as a career.

Once the basic training is obtained, maintenance of certification becomes a training concern. Four classroom hours are required monthly for emergency medical personnel while yearly classes and testing is required for Infection Control, First Responder and CPR. ISO dictates that a certain number of hours must be spent monthly covering the entire scope of fire suppression responsibilities. Additionally, personnel are required to study maps of the City and must test for accuracy.

The Firefighters employed by the City of Goose Creek do not stop with the necessary training. They all have exceeded the requirements by obtaining advanced classes. Other areas of training include arson detection and investigation, rescue diving, equipment maintenance, and Hazardous Material Training.

We must be prepared to deliver services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, under any conditions. Our citizens expect us to respond promptly with an adequate number of personnel who are trained and equipped to handle the situation, provide quality service and do it efficiently. Therefore, the number of resources within the department, the training and preparation of field personnel, and the deployment of those resources are important to our mission.
