Firefighter Requirements
It is imperative that a firefighter have the ability to perform many functions. Firefighters must have certain knowledge and skills that will allow them to function effectively in the position. Some of the requirements are:
- Certification as an EMT or Paramedic
- Knowledge of organization, operation and procedures of the fire department.
- Meet physical fitness standards.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees and the general public.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to learn a wide variety of firefighting and rescue duties within a reasonable working test period.
