Architectural Review Board

The Architectural Review Board is a volunteer group that consists of seven City residents who are appointed by City Council. The group meets monthly to review permit applications for new construction, building renovations, landscaping and signage. The intent and purposes of the ARB are:

To protect and provide for the unique, special, and desired character of the commercial and light industrial districts and uses inside the City of Goose Creek, in terms of positive visual and aesthetic appearances of these districts and uses including their respective roadways;
To discourage piecemeal development and create unity along the commercial and light industrial districts and uses of the City;
To foster civic beauty;
To encourage designs which produce a desirable relationship between individual buildings, the circulation system and adjacent areas; and to permit a flexible, high quality response of development to a variety of land uses and activities.;
To assure respect for the character, integrity, and quality of the built and natural environments of the City

The influence of the ARB can be seen in the increasing quality of commercial construction taking place in the City. It is not the intent of the City to create hardship for business owners by regulating signs and building design or by stifling innovative architecture. Rather, by establishing zoning controls the City hopes to create a visually attractive and unique community in which businesses may thrive. ARB meetings are open to the public.
