I'd like to start a business in my home If you are thinking of working from home or starting your own business, there are some regulations that you will need to consider.
- You must apply for a business license and a home occupany license for any home occupancy. Call 797-6220 x 100 for more information or click on the links to download the application.
- The home occupancy use must be carried on wholly within the pricipal building; attached garages may be used only for the storage of parts and materials.
- The total percentage floor area dedicated to the home occupation, including attached garages for the storage of parts and materials, may not exceed 25%.
- No activity may be conducted outside, nor shall there be any outdoor storage, display nor refuse area in the yard(s).
- No signs are allowed, except in conformance with the City's sign regulations, nor shall merchandise or articles be displayed so as to be visible from outside the building.
- No person, not residing in the residence, shall be employed.
- No traffic shall be generated in an amount above that normally expected in a residential neighborhood.
- No parking is allowed above that accommodated in residential off-street parking, not to encroach into required yards; additional off-street parking associated with the home occupation is limited to one commercially registered vehicle per residence.
- There is no alteration whatsoever of the residential character of the building(s) and/or premises.
- The occupation, profession or trade is licensed by the City, and generates no noise, glare, heat, vibration, smoke, dust or odor perceptible to adjacent uses.
