“Buck-a-Cup”/Brace a Child
Goose Creek police officers join their fellow law enforcement brothers and sisters in the statewide BAC campaign that raises money for the Easter Seals Society.

Money is raised by officers selling BAC buttons to the members of the general public for $1. Buttons are sold during the weeks preceding Good Friday.

Citizens who have purchased a button and wear it on their lapel receive complimentary coffee at participating restaurants on Good Friday.

Torch Run for the Special Olympics
During this springtime ritual, Goose Creek police officers participate in the leg of the run that extends in and through the Goose Creek City limits. Various legs of the same run occur simultaneously throughout South Carolina with torch-carrying law enforcement officers.

All legs of the run converge in Columbia to help usher in the South Carolina Special Olympics competition and ceremonies. This event focuses attention on our very special friends and citizens, and has taken place since the very early 1980’s.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (click here for 2011 event information)
Since 1985, the Goose Creek Police Department has conducted a bike-a-thon called “Wheels For Life” to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The general idea is to have a good time while helping out a great bunch of kids.

The event, usually held mid- to late- March on a Saturday, attracts riders of all ages. Entire families have participated, including little ones on tricycles. Those who do not ride a bicycle are invited to walk. The mile-long course covers hiker-biker trails and safe residential streets.

Participants can repeat the course as many times as they like between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Lunch and cold drinks are provided.

All riders who collect pledges receive a St. Jude certificate. Those who turn in $25 receive a St. Jude T-shirt, while those who turn in $75 receive a T-shirt and a St. Jude tote bag. Many other prizes donated by local merchants are given away to the riders who turn in the most money.
