In 1976, New York natives Sal and Esther Gandolfo found they needed a change of pace. They were familiar with the City of Goose Creek and had family in the area. After several visits to the City, the Gandolfos found a house, purchased a business and made their new home in Goose Creek.

Although Mr. Gandolfo liked his new community, he wanted to further develop the City’s zoning ordinances and policies. To do this, Mr. Gandolfo joined the City of Goose Creek Zoning Board of Appeals in 1982.

“I loved the fact that I could step outside my house and smell the fresh air. I wanted to help preserve that,” said Mr. Gandolfo.

After serving 15 years on the Zoning Board of Appeals, Mr. Gandolfo decided to run for Goose Creek City Council.

“The City was getting better and better. I liked what the Council was doing,” said Mr. Gandolfo. “I wanted to be a part of it.”

As a Councilmember, Mr. Gandolfo maintains his commitment to controlling Goose Creek’s growth. As part of this development, Councilman Gandolfo strongly supported the construction of Fire Station II.

“The City of Goose Creek has not finished growing and changing,” said Mr. Gandolfo. “City Council is working together to make sure we are prepared for those changes.”

Mr. Gandolfo believes that the next step in preparing for growth is providing recreational areas. He hopes that the City will build on the recreation services they provide to children, while developing recreational activities for elderly residents. What takes up most of Mr. Gandolfo’s time is his desire to answer to his constituents. Mr. Gandolfo wants ensure that City Council carefully considers how each new idea or ordinance will affect the people of Goose Creek.
