Councilmember Kimo Esarey was born and raised in Southwest Virginia. While on vacation in Charleston, Mr. Esarey and his wife, Marti, started to consider relocating to the region. Mr. Esarey found a job with Westvaco as a computer programmer and Dorchester School District II hired Marti Esarey that same day. The two decided they were meant to live in the Charleston area. The Esareys moved from Summerville to Crowfield Plantation in 1981 when Westvaco was still in the process of building the new neighborhood.
“At first I thought Crowfield should become its own City,” said Mr. Esarey. “But after really studying the issue, I realized what a good deal it was to live in Goose Creek.”
After serving on the Parks and Playground Commission for six years, Mr. Esarey decided he wanted to continue making a difference by running for City Council. As part of his continued commitment to the Parks and Recreation Commission, Councilman Esarey strongly supports building a new recreation complex.
“My older children, Ashley and Andrew, never got a new recreation center,” said Mr. Esarey. “I would like to see my youngest daughter, Morgan, using a new facility.”
Mr. Esarey believes City Council should continue its efficient and fiscally responsible style of government. The City should maintain its policy of providing quality services without interfering in citizens’ everyday life. He is also concerned with preserving the unique character of Goose Creek. Councilman Esarey wants to make sure the City carefully plans its growth and doesn’t overextend itself.
“It’s convenient to have businesses in Goose Creek, but we don’t want all the traffic that big business brings,” said the Councilman.
Mr. Esarey holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Computer Science and Math from James Madison University.
