Welcome to the Department of Planning & Zoning. Our staff facilitates orderly land development, commercial activity, housing production and resource preservation.
The Department assumes a leadership role in guiding the future growth and development of the City. While serving the diverse needs of city residents, corporate citizens, community institutions and public organizations, the Department seeks to facilitate well planned, sustainable long-term growth and development. We work closely with other City departments and public agencies to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of service.
The Department performs a variety of services including:
- Plan and Plat Review
- Permit and License Review
- Zoning Administration and Enforcement
- E-911 Database Management
- Floodplain Management
- Architectural and Sign Review
- Comprehensive Planning
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Land Use Planning
The Department staffs the Development Review Committee (DRC), which is comprised of representatives from the Public Works, Fire and Police Departments. The DRC is an internal development review process that ensures collaborative and orderly reviews of site plans. The Department also staffs three citizen boards and commissions including the Planning Commission, the Architectural Review Board (ARB), and the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA).
